What does every golfer expect when they put a shiny new driver in play? More distance! But the USGA has been putting all sorts of rules and restrictions on club head designs to prevent that very situation from occurring. This is why designers have to be more creative in designing clubs to that will truly enhance their customers’ game. One method is to design clubs around the way average golfers swing, rather than creating perfect clubs and expecting golfers to swing that way. In that respect, there is still quite a bit room for improvement.

One of the most common tendencies is when a golfer comes over the top and makes an outside-in move. This is evident by most shots off the tee resulting into a push, fade or the dreaded slice. A Golf Digest article “Add 42 Yards Now” explained that if you were able to change to more of an inside-out movement a golfer who swung 95 mph could gain as much as 42 yards. Of course, this would require a huge change in how the person swings the club and let’s face it most golfers are not going to be able to put in that time and effort. But through creating design features in the club head, the golfer can be encouraged to make more of an inside path.

This is how the Acer XDS Insider got its name. The profile of the head as well as the contour on the crown was specifically designed to create a mental picture of swinging from the inside. This will encourage one to swing the driver on an inside-out swing path instead of that dreaded distance robbing over-the-top move.

The XDS Insider also helps you in two other ways. By adding internal weighting within the head in the heel area, this creates draw spin on center shots. The other method in creating a “draw bias” is the unique asymmetrical sole. More weight is shifted toward the heel in order to assist in rotating the head and squaring the face at impact.

The face angle is a little more closed than normal to provide some additional corrective measures. In many cases when a golfer sees a closed club face they are not even aware they are manipulating the club face or their stance open and essentially negating the potential benefit of the clubface being closed. The Acer XDS Insider’s addressed this problem as the face angle is cleverly disguised by the masking on the crown to provide a “square” appearance so they can just trust their natural swing. Lastly, the Acer XDS Insider also boasts a variable face thickness, cup face design to make the entire club face become one gigantic sweet spot and ensure that you get all the distance possible.

If you are missing fairways off the tee on a regular basis, then the Acer XDS Insider Thriver was designed for you. We took the best aspects of a driver and a 3-wood to create the best of both worlds.

For instance, a driver is approximately 3 times the size of a #3 wood but has a much higher moment of inertia (MOI) making it more forgiving on off-center shots. Plus you have a large confidence-building, thin face that produces a spring-like effect right up to the legal limit for more distance. On the other hand, a 3 wood is more lofted and this cuts down on side spin for straighter shots, plus the shorter length enables you to have more control.

Why not just cut down your driver? It would be too light to effectively control. The Acer XDS Insider Thriver club head weighs a full 10g more than a normal driver to allow for a shorter, more controllable length that now has the proper amount of club weight. Plus we placed this added weight in a strategic location to produce an even higher MOI. Combine the higher loft (14º) of a stronger lofted #3 fairway wood and what you now have is the ultimate in control off of the tee.

The head shape and contour on the crown was specifically designed to encourage one to swing the driver on an inside-out swing path. Plus the XDS Insider’s internal weighting creates a draw enhancing ball flight on center impact. The masking on the crown using our exclusive Square Optical Alignment System, cleverly disguises the closed face angle to provide a “square” appearance so one can just trust their natural swing.

Meet the latest generation of Acer woods loaded with many added features to improve the game of a wide range of players. First we focused on the face technology by offering a variable face thickness, cup-face design. While it is easy to provide for the maximum allowable performance on center shots, the difference of a premium club is the ability to provide near perfect results with less than perfect shots. The cup-face moves the welds away from the corners of the head to provide a thinner, more active face to maximize ball speed on the off-center shots. The variable face thickness further reduces the wall thickness around the perimeter of the impact area so the entire club face becomes a gigantic sweet spot. Now off-center or miss hits will launch the ball directly down the fairway like you perfectly struck the ball in the center of the face. The shape of the head was carefully selected to appeal to the eye of a wide range of golfers, yet improve stability by expanding the front-to back dimension. The center of gravity moves lower and further from the face to optimize launch conditions. The Acer XK Drivers are available in a multitude of loft angles to meet all your custom fitting needs.

The Acer XK Draw Driver incorporates the same cutting edge technology as the new Acer XK titanium driver, with one major difference. The one addition we made was incorporating a generous offset hosel - a larger offset than what is found on many of today’s most popular offset models. This helps to further assist squaring up the clubface without having to resort to a severely closed face angle.

The inspiration of the unique geometry shape is based on the Amazonian Black Caiman. This powerful beast preys mostly on birdies and eagles and is fearless in devouring the competition on golf courses around the globe. Several iterations of this driver were drafted using CAD software until we were able to optimize the CG location for the best results. The elongated breadth, coupled with internal weighting produces an extremely stable, high moment of inertia design for exceptional raw distance and control off of the tee. Rounding out this design is a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating, creating not only an extremely durable finish, but also providing a lustrous black appearance. A square shaped profile, but a look and sound that even better golfers will revere. The large footprint at address coupled with additional material in the rear corners formed by the square shape, combine to produce superb perimeter weighting. We went steps further by positioning extra weight via adjustable weight screws in the most beneficial positions in the clubhead and augmented a beta titanium face for weight savings and performance. All this adds up to a high moment of inertia design designed to hit the ball straighter over the entire face.  At 460cc, it is equipped with dual adjustable weight ports for many custom clubmaking options for determining to proper weight and directional control for whatever length you desire. As shipped, the stock club is equipped with a 3g screw in the toe and a 10g screw in the heel ports.
